Overview
What is our online exam platform?
An online exam platform lets students sit a timed test in a browser instead of an exam hall. Ours is built for the hardest case: a whole cohort logging in on the same morning and answering the same paper in one window, at whatever size the exam needs. It is proven live with 50,000 students in one two-hour window.
It is a secure online examination system for timed MCQ exams. Students sign in with their register number, questions are released one at a time on a server-controlled clock, each student gets their own question and option order, and scoring happens on the server. If you need to conduct an online exam for thousands of students in India, from a school and college online exam to a scholarship exam online, this is large-scale online test software that has already carried that load.
Engineering
How it stays up at scale
An online exam fails at the start time, when everyone arrives together. Each of these choices exists to keep that moment calm.
Built for the login wave
Students sign in with their register number. Password checks are fast and timing-safe, designed for a whole cohort logging in on the same morning.
Start times spread out
Each student gets a small start offset, so the peak is spread out instead of every request landing in the same instant.
Zero database reads on the hot path
During the sitting the exam pages read nothing from the database. The session carries the student's identity, and questions are cached in memory with a short refresh.
Questions on a server clock
Questions are released one at a time on a clock kept by the server, so every student moves through the paper in lockstep. Timing comes from the server, not the student's device.
Answers saved as you go
Each answer is saved by upsert with a 1.5-second grace period for slow connections, and can be changed until the window closes.
Load-tested before the day
We load-test the exam before the exam day, so the start-time peak is something we have already seen.
Scale
Built to scale with you
50,000 students is a proof point, not a ceiling. Capacity is sized to the exam.
Scales by adding servers
The hot path makes no database reads, so capacity grows by adding servers behind a load balancer (horizontal scaling).
Sized to the exam
We size the setup for the expected turnout of each exam.
Tested before the day
We load-test at that size before exam day.
Proven live
The same design has handled 50,000 students in one two-hour window, with headroom beyond that.
For students
What a student experiences
Log in
The student signs in with their register number and password.
Wait screen
A wait screen holds the student until their start time.
Timed questions
Questions appear one at a time with a countdown. Each answer is saved as soon as it is chosen and can be changed until the window closes.
Confirmation
When the paper ends, the student sees confirmation that their answers are recorded.
Integrity
A fair paper for every student
Integrity comes from how the system works, not from trusting the browser.
One attempt per register number
Each register number can sit the exam once.
Seeded question order
Each student's question and option order is derived from a deterministic seed, so it is auditable and nothing random is stored or sent.
Server clock
Every question opens and closes on the server's clock.
Server-side scoring
Scoring happens on the server, and the correct answers are never sent to the browser.
Out-of-window requests rejected
Requests that arrive outside the exam window are rejected and logged.
Who it is for
Built for exams where everyone sits at once
Schools, colleges and universities
Semester tests, internal assessments and entrance rounds where a whole batch sits together.
Scholarship and entrance tests
Timed MCQ papers taken by large numbers of applicants in a single window.
Coaching institutes
Mock tests and assessments for large batches of students across locations.
Government and corporate assessments
Recruitment and qualifying tests that need a fair, auditable result.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Answers about scale, connectivity, fairness, scoring and getting started.
How many students can sit the exam at once?
As many as the exam needs. Capacity is added per exam: the exam pages make no database reads during the sitting, so we scale by adding servers, and we size and load-test for the expected turnout before exam day. The largest live sitting so far was 50,000 students in one two-hour window.
What happens if a student's internet drops?
Each answer is saved to the server as soon as it is chosen, with a 1.5-second grace period for slow connections, so answers saved before the drop are kept. The questions run on the server's clock, so the paper does not pause for a dropped connection.
Can students see each other's questions?
Each student gets their own question and option order, derived from a deterministic seed, so students sitting side by side do not see the same paper in the same order. Questions are released one at a time, and the correct answers are never sent to the browser.
Is scoring automatic?
Yes. Scoring happens on the server, and the correct answers never reach the student's browser. Because each student's order comes from a deterministic seed, any result can be re-checked.
Can it be customised for our exam?
Yes. We set it up and run it as a service for your exam, around your question paper, your timing and your exam window.
